Crusty Bread Recipe

3 cups unbleached all purpose flour 4 cups
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon Instant or Rapid-rise yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water and mix until
a shaggy mixture forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 12 – 18 hours.
Overnight works great. Heat oven to 450 degrees. When the oven has reached 450
degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, pour dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover with
plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating. Remove hot pot from the oven and drop
in the dough. Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid
and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack
to cool.

Variation. Youtube – he puts about 1/8 cup of water in pan before lid and bakes at 475 –
15 m in add more water.

Happy Halloween! Wishing all of our members a safe and spectacularly spooky Halloween.

Frieling kitchen ware will be holding it’s annual warehouse sale next week, November 8th through the 10th at  398 York Southern Rd, Fort Mill, SC 29715. there are sure to be some amazing deals, so get out and check them out!  Co-op member Katherine Vinson will be looking to get a group together to carpool and or caravan out there one day next week, please contact her or check out the postcard at the co-op register for details.

Mega Food  is having a 20% off sale! The Co-op will be placing an order on Wednesday, November 23rd, please get your special orders in.

Looking for a unique gift, accessory or home decor item?                                        The Upstate Food Co-op is planning a Matr Boonie order just in time for the holidays! Consignment
Monthly Senior Discount Day: The Co-op now offers a 5% discount to all seniors age 65+ on the 3rd Saturday of each month. The next senior discount day will be held on November 19th. To receive the discount please inform the cashier BEFORE you begin your transaction; the discount will not be available after you have already checked out. Your markup will be reduced by 5% for that day; no markup can go below 0%.
